If you are planning to start a homestay in Uttarakhand, here is everything you need to know. The Uttarakhand Homestay Scheme has become a major source of employment for unemployed youth. Even Prime Minister Narendra Modi has praised this initiative in his speeches. Let’s understand what a homestay is and what conditions are required to start one.
Uttarakhand Homestay Scheme
The Atithi Uttarakhand Home Stay Rules were launched by the state government to attract tourists to both urban and remote tourist areas, improve quality accommodation, create self-employment opportunities at the local level, and provide an additional source of income to homeowners.
The main objective of this scheme is to offer clean, affordable, and quality accommodation to domestic and foreign tourists, especially in rural areas. It also gives tourists the opportunity to stay with Indian families, experience local culture and traditions, and enjoy authentic Uttarakhand cuisine.

What is a Homestay?
A homestay is a place where tourists stay in a residential house instead of a hotel. Unlike hotels, homestays are existing homes that are slightly modified and given a modern touch. As the name suggests, home means house and stay means to live—tourists stay in a family home.
